Desktop 12-11-08 , originally uploaded by Siriuslyheather.

I just had to - JUST HAD TO

What a beautiful picture... and she loves moons!!

Well, while I was on Pownce, there were specific days for specific things,

Music Video Mondays
Tunesdays
Wordle / Writing Wednesdays (whichever you preferred)
Desktop Thursdays
Foto Fridays (Fridays was also FNPDC)
Saturday Morning Cartoons
and Sunday was Gods day!!

Well Our posts used to normally flood around these themes apart from our normal ramblings and Heather's desktops were normally the prettiest!!

Like this one!!

Nice one Heather!!

First it was Simons Cat and now we will see his Dog!

I had blogged some time ago - read here Partha's Weblog: [digg] Simons Cat - TV Dinner. Well I found something rather interesting and funny but very disconcerting after careful thought and now hope that my pet does not ever have to go through this. Even though it was a cartoon, it put the fear of table manners for my pet into me and I shall ensure that she too is polite enough to not beg.. She does not now anyway, but even so.

It is us, the pet keepers, who create this kind of a situation for our pets.

Lets not do this!!

Spread this to your friends who have a pet!!

In the meantime - have a look at this cartoon video:

We all Procrastinate

Sometimes this is just pure laziness, and sometimes its force of habit.. BUT in everycase, someone has to pay.

This past week, I have come to realise that procrastination paid its highest price. Mumbai suffered innumerable losses from "terrorists". The reason I double quoted it is because they were trained military men from their behaviour. Every movement and trick was military.

I just procrastinated this blog post by another 3 days.. although the time stamp may some thing, i actually wrapped this up on 6th Dec. Sad!!!

But I had reasons!

What is your reason to push things to another day??

Just something that struck me!

People deserve to be treated better. They deserve more happy realism rather than the sombre or more devastating realism. There is too much discomfort and unhappiness all around making everything less interesting.

I know that people I know deserve better than what they have!! Sometimes I feel even I should!

But as far as I am concerned I know that there is a logical reason as to why things happen to me. Either I am stupid, or i was not paying attention, or something or the other.

I really hope that things get better for you!

In life, everyone fails as much as their succeeds, but it is how you learn from it that seperates you from the crowd, and how well you apply it to life to grow as a human that makes you stand above the crowd, and if you use it to help someone who deserves it, then you are as close to God as possible.

Things have changed now - I am now a more focused man, a more reliable man. Unlike the flimsy flippant boy I was before. I am settling down in life and making sure, my life counts for something.

A Case for Unified Civil Code in India

I found this story thanks to my friend Issac!! This is something that the future of India depends on - get rid of the age old archaic bullshit that runs our country... we need a new system thats growth happy, and will allow the right things to prosper... we dont want monkeys running our political system. People like Mamta Banerjee and the CPI (both) are asses for ruining the economy based on their baseless and illogical thought...

There is an need for a unified civil code in India that is 60 years overdue. Because,1) The Constitution Mandates it.2) The Supreme Court has asked the Government to do its job and legislate it.3) It is not against any single community.4) It is actually possible to come up with a common code that can be acceptable for all.

Cross-posting: saving time at the expense of others?

Cross-posting: saving time at the expense of others?

by Andy DeSoto on August 3, 2008

Social media blogger Rahsheen Porter recently wrote a great piece about Ping.fm, a useful web service that lets you send the same message out to a number of social media services (”cross-posting“). In his insightful post, he details a complex method of ensuring that the right social networks receive the correct messages, providing the biggest bang for the buck.

Rahsheen’s article illuminates the good that cross-posting services can do for both creator and consumer alike, but my take on Ping.fm and similar services is considerably more pessimistic. It’s my belief that the duplication that results from cross-posting can negatively impact the social media consumption habits of others.

Why cross-posting is good

Rahsheen’s article underlines one of the main benefits to cross-posting. He writes:

This is all about increasing my social networking influence. I want to interact with a diverse selection of people because I have diverse interests. Ping.fm allows me to keep all these different groups updated with whatever is going on with me. I can share new music I create, content I’ve written, whatever I choose and I can share it across multiple social networks. I want to learn from others and get their feedback on what I’m doing.

However, there seems to be a bit of a contradiction here in that “increasing social networking influence” (that is, broadcasting) is a considerably different goal from learning from others and getting feedback (conversation). In fact, I think the confusion here is representative of the confusion that arises from cross-posting in general. Fortunately, Rahsheen is very thoughtful when it comes to cross-posting and goes out of his way to make sure he uses the tool appropriately, but others are not as considerate.

Why cross-posting is evil

As far as I’m concerned, the negatives of cross-posting greatly outweigh the benefits. Here are a few reasons why cross-posting negatively impacts your followers:

  • They don’t know which service you’re most likely to check for responses on. If someone replies to your comment on Pownce and you never check Pownce for replies, you’re missing out on a potentially valuable comment and wasting your follower’s time.
  • Different communities warrant different content. What’s appropriate, relevant, or interesting to one group of people will almost surely be less meaningful to another. Cross-posting can mindlessly eliminate a necessary distinction between communities.
  • Different communities support different standards. Twitter’s at sign (@) is invaluable at directing Tweets. When these messages are cross-posted to a service like Pownce, as shown above, they lose all meaningfulness. Users have to expend mental processing power to remove them from the picture. Pownce, on the other hand, has no character limit, so only cross-posting 140 or fewer character messages to Pownce doesn’t take advantage of the nuances of the service.
  • Cross-posting services are often buggy or unstable. Many services such as Ping.fm have the habit of posting the same message to one network more than one time. Whether this is the fault of the network or the cross-posting client, this is one surefire way to infuriate those that care.

The irony is, by cross-posting, you alienate your most valuable readers: those that are so interested in you and what they have to say that they follow you on every service they can. Don’t let these devoted followers down by broadcasting your message two or three times in a row!

REM - Losing My Religion

REM - Losing My Religion, originally uploaded by Partha N S.

R.E.M.

Losing My Religion

Oh, life is bigger
It's bigger than you
And you are not me
The lengths that I will go to
The distance in your eyes
Oh no, I've said too much
I set it up

(chorus)
That's me in the corner
That's me in the spotlight, I'm
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it
Oh no, I've said too much
I haven't said enough
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

Every whisper
Of every waking hour I'm
Choosing my confessions
Trying to keep an eye on you
Like a hurt lost and blinded fool, fool
Oh no, I've said too much
I set it up
Consider this
Consider this
The hint of the century
Consider this
The slip that brought me
To my knees failed
What if all these fantasies
Come flailing around
Now I've said too much
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

But that was just a dream
That was just a dream

(repeat chorus)

But that was just a dream
Try, cry, why try?
That was just a dream
Just a dream, just a dream
Dream
